NIS Reaches Summit
Olivier Soudieux of our NIS Service Line in
France and eight others are resting comfortably in Kathmandu under strict
curfew after their successful assent of the 7,126 metre peak of Himlung
Himal in the Himalayas.
Following the massacre of the royal family of Nepal, most
communications are not getting through and the airport is closed. Tourists
are under curfew from 8:00 a.m. to midnight. NIS internal communications
leader Sophie Darrigues managed to get through on the telephone to Olivier
and ascertained that the team was all in good health after their ordeal.
Sophie says, " They have lived intense moments, discovered beautiful
scenery and climbed a tougher course than expected all the way to the
top with serious weather conditions." A full report from Sophie on the
experiences of their climb is expected by the Daily Planet in the next
few days. NIS
According to Sophie, "This event was used to promote our NIS services
by showing and demonstrating the challenge of being the best in leadership
through 'actions'. This expedition is an example of NIS going beyond
personal limits and leading the way for other employees and our own
service line team."
The team set out on 20 April for their climb dressed in CGE&Y-branded
clothing. Our NIS Service Line sponsored the expedition.
The Himlung Himal is located on the edge of the Mustang on the border
between Nepal and Tibet. The summit was first reached in 1992 by the
Academic Alpine Club of Hikkaido, Japan. This was the first ever try
by Europeans.
